nicuVitals is a teaching simulator. It has no accounts, no sign-in and no patient data. The numbers it displays are ones you typed on a slider, not measurements of anyone.
The iOS app
The app collects nothing. There is no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising identifier and no third-party SDK of any kind in it.
What is stored on your device
Only these preferences, held in the app's own storage and never sent anywhere:
- Whether you have acknowledged the first-run disclaimer
- Whether the pulse tone is muted
- Which preset label style you prefer
- The last room code you used, and when
Deleting the app removes them. Nothing is backed up to a server, because there is no server that holds anything.
When the app uses the network
Running on a single device, the app makes no network calls at all. It works with the phone in flight mode.
The one exception is driving a second screen. That connects to
nicuvitals.nicutools.org — the only host the app ever
contacts — and sends the simulation state so the other screen can display
it:

That is the whole list. It carries nothing about you, your device or any patient.
Rooms and room codes
A room is a temporary connection between two screens, identified by a six-character code. The server that joins them is a relay, not a store: it forwards messages between the two connected screens in memory and writes nothing to disk. When the screens disconnect, the room and everything in it is gone.
We do count connections. Each time a room is opened, and each time a
second screen joins one, a counter is incremented at
stats.nicutools.org. Only the fact that it happened is
recorded, with the date and whether the room was started from the app or
from a browser. The room code is never sent, the simulation values are
never sent, and nothing links one connection to another, or to you.
Codes are randomly generated and not tied to you in any way. Anyone who has the code can join the room while it is open, so treat it as you would a meeting link — which, given the room contains nothing but two made-up numbers, is a mild concern rather than a serious one.
This website
The simulator pages at nicuvitals.nicutools.org count how
often each page is opened. The counts go to
stats.nicutools.org, a service we run ourselves. They set no
cookies, involve no third party, and record only which page was opened and
when — no simulation values, no room codes, no personal information, no
advertising or tracking identifiers. This page and the
support page carry no analytics at all.
The site is served through Cloudflare, which processes requests on our behalf and may log standard technical information such as IP addresses for security and abuse prevention, as any web host does.
Children
nicuVitals is a professional teaching tool intended for clinicians, students and educators. It is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone, of any age.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Given that the app collects nothing, changes are likely to be corrections rather than expansions.
